Note; Chimpanzee trekking sounds as the main stopping activity for tourists in Kibale National Park. It is a half-day primate experience that involves 1-hour stay with great apes in their natural environment.
Chimpanzee habituation is a process undertaken for 2 to 3 years to first train the chimps in order to get used to eye contact with human beings. When the park rangers notice that the chimpanzee group is fully habituated – they open it for tourism. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Kibale National Park,
Depending on your location in Kampala on the first day of the 3 Days Uganda Chimpanzee Trekking or Habituation Safari, you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the safari and then set off to Kibale National Park in western Uganda. The journey takes about 5 to 6 hours’ drive and on the way expect to enjoy great views of the tea plantations, beautiful scenery, landscape, and a stopover in Fort Portal town for lunch. After lunch, proceed the journey to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay at Chimpundu lodge-luxury/ Kibale Tourist Safari lodge-midrange or Isunga lodge-budget.

Day 2: Chimpanzee habituation experience in Kibale National Park
After an early breakfast on the second day of the 3 Days Uganda Chimpanzee Trekking or Habituation Safari, you will carry a packed lunch and go meet up with your driver guide to embark on a briefing about the rules, regulations, and expectations of chimpanzees’ habituation. After the briefing, you will start trekking in the forest trailhead with a park ranger, and experienced park guide in search of the chimpanzees. During Chimpanzee trekking you will be able to spot different wildlife species, view other primates such as grey-cheeked Mangabey, red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, and view a variety of colorful bird species among others.
Once the chimpanzees are located you will be allowed to spend 4 hours with them in their natural habitat which gives you an opportunity to watch them feed, rest, breastfeed, fight, groom young ones, learn more about their behaviors, take some incredible photos and record the moments with a flashless camera. The activity takes a full day or half day depending on the movement of the chimpanzees because they like to move from one place to another searching for food. After the interesting moment with the chimpanzees, you will trek back to the park headquarters, meet up with your driver guide to drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight as above.

Day 3: Bigodi swamp walk and departure to Kampala
After breakfast on the last day of the 3 Days Uganda Chimpanzee Trekking or Habituation Safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to embark on a short swamp walk in Bthe igodi wetland. The swamp walk takes about three hours and offers you stunning views of different birdlife, primate species such as the red-tailed monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, grey-cheeked Mangabey, black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons, different plant and tree species, colorful butterflies many more.
After the Bigodi swamp walk, you will meet up with your driver guide to depart to Kampala. On the way, you will have an en-route lunch in Mbarara town and then continue the journey with a stopover at the Equator where you will be able to take memorable photos for remembrance and also buy craft souvenirs. From the Equator, you will proceed to Kampala. Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at Entebbe International Airport for your onward flight or be dropped to your place of choice.
