The park is a home of more than 315 recorded bird species including water birds, forest birds, Savannah birds and migratory birds which make Lake Mburo national park one of the best birding destinations in Uganda. There are several birding areas in Lake Mburo national park for example Rubanga forest, Rwonyo camp, swampy valleys of Mariti, salt lick area among others.

Best time to visit Lake Mburo national park

The park can be visited anytime throughout the year though the best time is during the dry season in the months of June, July, August, September, December, January and February. During the dry season the national park receives little or less rainfall therefore access roads / trekking trails will be passable and vegetation will be thin which makes wildlife viewing easy.

The park can also be visited in the wet season during the months of March to May and November because that’s the best time for bird watching where you will be able to view migratory bird species.

Lake Mburo national park is located in western part of Uganda and can be accessed by road transport means whereby you will drive from Kampala or Entebbe via Masaka-Mbarara road to the park headquarters which takes about 3 to 4 hours drive in a 4 WD safari vehicle.

The park can also be accessed by air transport means whereby you can book charter or schedules flights from Entebbe international airport or Kajjansi airfield to Mbarara airstrip and then connect to the park headquarters by road.
