Lake Victoria
Lake Victoria is an amazing and spellbinding great lake in Africa that covers an area surface/size of approximately 59,947 square kilometers which ranks the Lake as the Africa’s largest Lake by area as well as the largest Africa’s tropical lake.
Lake Victoria is shared three to four East African countries including Tanzania which occupies 49% on a 33,700 square kilometers area size, Kenya holds 6% and the lake occupies 4,100 kilometers square
Lake Victoria is the largest freshwater lake in Africa, supporting a wealth of wildlife and a vast human population. It is an immense resource providing a permanent livelihood for most of the inhabitants of the region.
Lake Victoria is home to over 80 million people who live in lake basins that extend across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda. The rapid growth of its population is placing increasing pressure on its natural resources, posing a danger to the environment in the medium and long term.
Lake Victoria is the largest freshwater body in Uganda. It has a water mass of 68,800 km2, making it the second largest in the world. That is partly why it defies being surrounded by 64 districts, with its associated unlimited socio-economic, physical, and environmental impact pressures. Lake Victoria serves as a major source of fisheries for Uganda and the East African region. It is the main source of water for domestic and industrial use in many towns and municipalities.
