Kasenyi Plain-Queen Elizabeth National Park : Kasenyi plains is a famous site that harbors a large number of wildlife in Queen Elizabeth national park which is part the most visited site on Uganda wildlife Safari. More so, Queen Elizabeth national park is renowned as the most visited national park on Uganda safari and the second largest game park in the country, located in south-western region in Kasese districts. The Kasenyi plains is one of the most visited site where one can adventure wildlife of Queen, it’s an open savannah grassland surrounded with Kazinga channel that connects with Lake George and Lake Edward at the edge of western rift valley and entirely within the park.

Kasenyi plains is at the same time called Kasenyi sector an open savannah grass land that harbors with large number of games most especially the Uganda kobs which are seen breeding in plains freely and lions are rarely seen here. Tourists on their visit to the park they enjoy game drives in Kasenyi plain and Ishasha sector. Animals to be encountered in Kasenyi plains include; elephants, warthogs, antelopes, hyenas, lions among others.

However, Kasenyi plains also supports variety of notable savannah bird species such as Yellow throated long crow, Red throat spur flow, grey crown crane among others. Ideally, most of the activities done in Queen Elizabeth national park are undertaken in Kasenyi plains due to the fact that large number of mammals are found along this site because of being an open savannah plain that attracts animals.

Definitely, it’s an open plain that attracts hunters like big cat’s lions and leopards to identity an enemy and run after it. It is also ideal place for the visitors who prefer taking photography. Note on a guided nature walk here is quite challenging to have enough view and capturing of wild treasures with their own eyes without a clear camera or pair of binoculars. Still there a lot of chances of seeing lions capturing their prey. Expect to see a number of mammals like Elephants, warthogs, lion, hyenas, antelopes many more.

Moreover, the Kasenyi plains consists of Kazinga channel where one can be to adventure in a boat cruise during afternoon hours which starts at 2pm and can take 2 to 3 hours, where you can be able to get close to water animal’s likes hippos and crocodiles as well as sightseeing of elephant’s sun bathing.

In general, it has become the major wildlife safari destination on Uganda safari because lions are clearly seen in the open plains while on the guided game drive. Along here travellers can also gain in exploring the big cats and it’s so amazing exploring them on hunt for their day meal. Their favourite food are the Uganda kobs and other antelopes. On your game drive you will also have great view of Uganda kobs mating on the ground. Absolutely, Kasenyi plains acts as the best game drive viewing on African wildlife adventure and to many who have visited the park can witness it.

Other Attractions Done in Kasenyi Plains Include;

The kazinga channel is also positioned in the south western part of Queen Elizabeth national park. On your visit here never leave without experiencing the remarkable Kazinga Channel.

Several lakes also act as an attraction to the park and such as lakes include Lake Bunyampaka and lake George both have fresh water and along these lakes their papyrus swamp that harbors with variety of wild animals that cannot be seen in the park and such species include Unique sitatunga antelopes, waterbucks and island like Kankurango, Akiki and Irangara many more.

Kasenyi fishing village also acts as a tourist attraction in Queen where you can visit and get amazed about the culture of the fishermen something full of excitement. You can also enjoy the African taste of snack fish at Kasenyi fishing village located near to the park.

Kasenyi plains hosts the Kasenyi Airstrip that sits at Kasenyi next to the park which act as way of transport to the park and around the landing site there are rewardable sights of mammals such as Buffaloes, Warthogs, Uganda kobs many more.

Accessibility to Kasenyi Plain –Queen

Since Kasenyi plains is found inside Queen Elizabeth national park in the north eastern side of the park which is at the same time known as Mweya or Kasenyi sector. The park is approximately 5 to 6 hours drives.

Alternatively, you can fly by Aero link Uganda which are booked from Entebbe International Airport to Kasenyi Airstrip which last 1:15 hours by Air.

Accommodation

There is no worry of accommodations in Queen Elizabeth national park because the park offers with classis lodges and hotels that fits with nice stay at the park ranging from Luxury to Budget; Ishasha Ntungwe River camp, Ihamba Safari lodge, Simba safari camp, Jacana lodge, Park view lodge, Kyambura tented camp few mentioned.
