Hiking Experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the best places for stunning hiking experiences and another thrilling activity that tourists engage in besides Uganda gorilla safari. However, Bwindi has got interesting hiking trails within and outside the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest which can take between 3 to 6 hours and the activity can be done with well-trained and well-informed guides.
The park is home to biodiversity species thus its recognition by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. It is rich in wildlife species over 120 mammal species,300 species of birds,200 butterfly species, frogs, and chameleons among other endangered species.
Hiking within this forest; offers beautiful sights of nature, small primates, birds, and sounds of nature that are so soothing. It also gives a great opportunity to see a variety of animal species like; bushbucks, African Forest Elephants, primates such as Colobus monkeys, Chimpanzees, Bird species, and a Myriad of tree species.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has various hiking trails in each of the four sectors. Meaning travelers can be part of this activity from any of the gorilla sectors of the park. The park has got interesting trails including; the Kashasha trail, Mubwindi trail, Muzabajirro loop trail, Bamboo, Rushura hill trail, Ivy River trail, Munyanga waterfall, Rusizi river, and Habinyanja trail among others. These trails lead you through the forest beauties like rivers, streams, waterfalls, and scenic views which makes the activity breathtaking.

Hikes outside the forest:
On a visit to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, you will be guided by well-skilled local tour guides. While hiking outside the forest, you will walk within a thrilling community for about 3 to 6 hours as you see and learn about the different types of local people that live around the park. You will be able to interact with local people very hospitable and welcoming. During your visit, you will receive many smiles from the local people as the little ones wave at you happily.
The communities to visit are occupied by the Batwa and Bakiga people who have a rich history and cultural background. You will still interact because they are not so exposed to the world. More so, you can engage in a community walk and be able to learn about their way of life and day-to-day running activities such as cattle raring, Gold mining, farming many more.
There is beautiful terrain surrounding the park, comprised of green vegetation and terraced gardens on the hills thus making the hiking adventure outside the park an unforgettable experience.
Visitors to Bwindi tend to combine hiking experiences with their Uganda Gorilla Trekking Packages. Others travel here to do hiking. Hiking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest can be done throughout the year around and the activity is affordable compared to gorilla trekking permit rates. Hiking experience in Bwindi goes between 30 to 40 USD per person.
Getting there; Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in southwestern Uganda regions and home to the world’s population of unique mountain gorillas that still exist in the wild. However, the park can be accessed by road transport from Kampala approximately 8 to 9 hours drive. Alternatively, the park can be reached by scheduled or chartered flight from Entebbe International Airport to Kihihi or Kisoro which are the closest airport to Bwindi’s gorilla sectors; Buhoma and Ruhija, and Rushaga and Nkuringo. The flight can take 1:30 hours and is about a 40-kilometer drive from the airstrip to the lodge.
