Climate and Weather in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park : Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has a tropical climate that makes it challenging to predict regular weather patterns. The park’s closeness to the equator means that temperature is very consistent all year around, hanging around 23 degrees Celsius in the day and dropping to roughly 11 degrees Celsius at night.

Temperature tends to be lower at higher altitudes within the park.

Rainfalls all year around at the park and short downpours are possible even during the dry season. The park’s annual rainfall ranges from 1,400 to 1,900 millimeters but is generally lower during the dry seasons of June to August and December to February.

Best season to visit Bwindi for Gorilla Trekking?

Gorilla trekking safaris is best done in dry seasons that start from June to Augusts. And the activity conditions seem to be difficult during the rainy season which runs from March to May and October to November.

Visiting during the dry season of June to August and December to February leads to high chances of great encounters with the gorilla in their natural habitat and wildlife viewing spectacular. However, clear skies are not guaranteed at any time of the year.

When to visit Bwindi for bird watching?

The rainy seasons of March to May and October to November are good times to go on Uganda Birding Safaris.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a truly birding place home to around 350 bird species and 23 of which are Albertine species. Some of the bird species to see includes; Mountain masked apalis, Many-coloured bush-shrike, Blue-headed sunbird, Western green tinker bird, Shelley’s crimson wing, Ruwenzori apalis, Purple-breasted sunbird, Olive-breasted sunbirds, Regal sunbird, Handsome francolin, Grauer’s broadbill, Black–faced warbler many more. The migratory bird species are best watched from November to April.

Gorilla trekking off-season discount;

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Uganda is best done in the peak season of June to August. The higher demand for gorilla permits increases their price and we advise you to book your permits in advance. The park attracts fewer tourists during the rainy seasons. Although, some lodges tend to close during the rainy seasons thus offering off-season discounts.

Gorilla trekking permit prices do not change but the trekking experience can be more personal in the off–season due to smaller group sizes.

For visitors who are untroubled by rain showers and slippery trails as well as trekking during the rainy seasons. It is very possible to go gorilla trekking in rainy seasons.

 

More so, Bwindi National Park is home to 22 habituated gorilla families and half of the world’s wild gorilla population. These 22 habituated gorilla families are divided into four trailheads as Nkuringo, Rushaga, Ruhija, and Buhoma gorilla sectors.

What is the cost of gorilla trekking permits?

Gorilla trekking permits cost USD700 per person per day, Rwanda Gorilla Permit cost USD1,500 per person per day while Gorilla habituation experience cost USD1,500 per person per day. Note; Gorilla trekking activity is a half-day activity with one hour given to the trackers to spend with gorillas and Gorilla habituation is a full-day experience including four hours to spend with gorillas in their natural environment.

Getting there; Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is approximately 8 to 9 hours drive. Or you can drive from Rwanda through the border connecting Cyanika to access Bwindi National Park which takes only 4 hour drive.
